Narendra Modi Chief Minister remembers Mahatma Jyotiba Phule


Ahmedabad, Sunday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today exhorted the leaders of backward communities to spread education and empower women.

He said there are several means of social work but to top the mall is spreading education for uplifting any community. He recalled the unparallel contribution of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and his wide Savitirben for bringing about a social revolution in the country. The couple fought against the British and devoted their life in eradicating social evils and spreading education among the girls, particularly in Maharashtra.

Mr. Modi was addressing the annual function of Gujarat Mali Samaj Federation held under the aegis of Mahatma Phule Seva Sansthan at Koba near here. It was attended by delegates from all over the state besides Rajasthan.

He said that a movement has been launched for a social revolution of sorts in Gujarat with the mantra of ‘Sauno Sath, Sauno Vikas’to unite India with all round development. Comparing Gujarat with Rajasthan, he said that Gujarat has strengthened the social fabric with development in agriculture, water management and human resource development.

The Chief Minister presented prizes to the meritorious students of the Mali Samaj and distributed sewing machines to widows. He said that Gujarat Government also give awards to dalit journalists and dalit women to commemorate Mahatma Phule and his wife.

Earlier, Mr. Gangaram Gehlot of Gujarat Mali Samaj gave details of the Federation and presented a chequeof Rs.1.51-lakh to the Chief Minister.

Prominent among those who attended the function included Gujarat Planning Board Chairman Bhupendrasinh Chudasma, MLAs Anil Mali and Bharat Barot, Rajasthan’s ex-Minister Rajendra Gehlot.
