Shri Ashok Gehlot's first tenure of Chief Ministership (1-12-1998 to 8-12-2003) was remarkable, among other things, for unprecedented drought management, power generation, infrastructure development, employment generation, industrial and tourism promotion, financial management and good governance. During his first tenure the state of Rajasthan suffered worst famine of the century. He manage the famine relief works quite efficiently. Famine affected people stocked more wheat with them than they could get from their crops. Even the opposition could not raise a finger for non-availability of food grain or fodder as he personally monitored the famine relief operations. Empathizing with the poor and their sufferings is what Shri Gehlot is known for. His slogan "Save Water, Save Electricity, Educate all" was hailed by all and sundry in Rajasthan. Shri Ashok Gehlot has been sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan for the second time on 13th December 2008.

Dr. S. S. Sankhala is working as Professor & Unit Head, Orthospine Unit in Department of Orthopaedics, S.M.S. Medical College & Hospital, Jaipur in Rajasthan State. He was medical Officer Incharge at rural peripheral Centrever & then Civil Assistant Surgeon in Department of Orthopaedics, MG Hospital, Jodhpur in 1985 to May 1987. Since 2nd June 1987, he is working as teacher in SMS Medical College, Jaipur on the post of Assistant Profession (topped Public Service Commission in 1988), then in 1999 on meritorious basis selected as Associate Professor & since Oct 2009, as Professor in the same institution under the stalwarts like Late Dr. J.C.Sharma, Professor & Head & then Principal & Controller SMS Medical College & attached hospitals, Jaipur (Rajasthan). I received various honours namely NEUROBION E-MERCK FELLOWSHIP AWARD (1987), JOHNSON & JHONSON Inland Travelling FELLOWSHIP AWARD (1992) & was Guest Speaker in (1) National Conference of MYCETOMA & SIHAM held in Jodhpur (1998) and in (2) Indian Radio-Imaging CME held at Jaipur (1998). More than 13 Scientific Research papers have been published in my credit in different Journals of National, International & State repute & more than 16 papers presented in National Conferences held at various places in India, even more than a dozen papers in different State Conferences. I was Co-investigator in the Research Project "An Epidemiologic Study of Mycetoma in Rajasthan" grant from ICMR (1980 - 1983) & investigator in the State research Project "Effect of Drugs in Fluorosis affected Adults" (2006-2008). Since postgraduation & then during service of last 29 years (inclusive of 25 years of teaching medical faculty in SMS Medical College & attached hospitals), different routine, emergency & complex Specialty Orthopaedic Surgeries was performed by me inclusive of talus fractures, orthofix-monorail fixation application in nonunion long bones (infected & non infected), high tibial osteotomtes. Along with these , since last five years, nearly 300 spine surgeries were performed in different spinal ailments. Eight orthopaedic postgraduate candidates guided under me & succeed in Master's degree with a thesis by each one on different subjects, at present, three residents are in such process.
